Somnath Bothe’s paintings are a combination of the rural and urban. Having spent his childhood in the villages he has, as he says, ” a deep rooted respect for nature” however living in the city has also influenced his artworks a great deal. Life in the city with it’s buildings and automobiles are featured in his paintings; while the foreground is highlighted with bold colours the background is in muted and smoky hues, as if hiding itself away from the daily hustle and bustle. Vibrant colours have very gradually faded to form a picture very pleasing to the eye. For Somnath Bothe painting is a medium of expression his way of looking at things.
